The Lowther Show’s headline attraction, the Lowther Horse Driving Trials, arrived at the Lowther Show last weekend bringing plenty of exciting, fast-paced action to the countryside event. Drivers were geared up to complete the courses through quick, highly skilled driving before some highly anticipated spectators.
Beginning with the Dressage on the Friday before the Show, Judges scored riders on their set and sequence of movements. They also marked on the freedom, regularity of pace, harmony, impulsion, suppleness and ease of movement from both the horse and rider.
The Trials included three parts to the competition, with the Dressage kick starting the event. On the Saturday of the Show, about half of the competitors enjoyed the challenge of the fast and furious Obstacles, which made up the final section of the cross country course called the Marathon. The Lowther Derby concluded the event on the Sunday. The other half of the competitors drove their Lowther Derby course on Saturday and concluded with their marathon course on Sunday. Penalty points were awarded for each phase of the competition and the competitor in each class completing the weekend with the fewest total penalties was awarded the winner of that class.
All three forms of disciplines were judged and marked and proved to be a huge success. For a full list of results from the weekend, please visit
