Back by popular demand, the 2014 Lowther Trail Run, sponsored by car manufacturers Isuzu, held their annual race at the weekend, with lots of runners attempting the gruelling 13-mile trek through the beautiful Lowther countryside.
Boasting remarkable scenery at every turn, the rugged 13-mile route crossed Askham Fell and the Lowther Valley and featured around 1400ft of ascent. With timing checkpoints at both Heughscar Hill and Knipe Scar, each runner carried an SI-Card, with the times of each competitor then recorded using the highly accurate SPORTident timing system. With an astonishing record of people taking part for 2014, the results were undeniably impressive. Running to victory for 2014, Kieran Hodgson of Helm Hill Running Club claimed the first place post, with his fantastic time of 1:31:42; Well done Kieran!
With many running clubs local to the area featuring in this year’s Lakeland Trail Run, the day has demonstrated the superb talent the north has to offer. Now in its 28th year, the run continues to attract much attention, and with the cost of the run also including entry into the weekend’s Lowther Show, the day is a must for all budding runners after a great day out.
