The year’s Lowther Show once again will play host to the ever-popular 30th Lowther Trail Run. This August, enthusiastic runners from all over the UK will be flocking to the beautiful Lowther countryside to jog up and down the Cumbrian hills whilst taking in the stunning scenery.
The 13-mile route is definitely not for the faint hearted. This year’s challenge takes you through the picturesque village of Askham and then onto Heughscar Hill. From here it turns south, descending the Cockpit and onwards across the valley of Heltondale to Butterwick. Runners will then immerse their feet into the chilly waters of the River Lowther and after clambering out of the opposite side of the river, runners will be faced with the steep climb up Knipe Scar. The route then switches to the grassland of Lowther Park to Whale.
The Isuzu Lowther Trail Run kicks off at 12pm on Sunday 14th August from the field positioned next to Lowther Castle. Lowther Castle is located three miles to the South of Penrith, to the West of the A6. Runners must come equipped with a lightweight rain top and suitable running shoes. With most of the route being spent on the low fell tracks, with fewer roads than in previous events, trail shoes will be more practical than fell shoes with faster runners preferring to wear trainers. There will be at least two checkpoints with drinks.
The Lowther Show takes place over the 13th and 14th August 2015. Countryman Fairs organise 5 award-winning events across the UK throughout the year, each showcasing the very best in country life.
