This August’s Lowther Show is all set to arrive inside the beautiful grounds of Lowther Castle over 11th and 12th August, welcoming a host of sporting pursuits and family entertainment, as well as the ever-popular Lowther Trail Run.
Here, enthusiastic runners from all over the UK are invited to take part in the challenging 13-mile route, which winds its way through the stunning Fells and Lowther Valley.
This challenging course is definitely not for the feint-hearted. With Lowther located 3 miles to the South of Penrith, the fully marked 13-mile route guides the runner through the picturesque Village of Askham and then onto Heughscar Hill. Turning south, the route then descends to the Cockpit and onwards across the Valley of Heltondale to Butterwick. Runners will then immerse their feet into the chilly waters of the River Lowther and after clambering out of the opposite side of the River, runners will be faced with the steep climb up Knipe Scar. The route then switches to the grassland of Lowther Park to Whale.
The Lowther Trail Run kicks off at 12pm on Sunday 12th August from the field positioned next to Lowther Castle. Lowther Castle is located three miles to the South of Penrith, to the West of the A6. Runners must come equipped with a lightweight rain top and suitable running shoes. With most of the route being spent on the low fell tracks, and with fewer roads than in previous events, trail shoes will be more practical than fell shoes – faster runners may prefer to wear trainers. There will be at least two checkpoints with drinks.
Fantastic value for money, part of the runner’s entry fee also includes a ticket to the Lowther Show for Sunday 12th August. You can also purchase additional adult tickets for the Lowther Show (12th August) when you enter the race. Runners can edit their entry at any time to add additional tickets for the Show once they know who will be with them on the day. These can then be collected at Race Registration.
