The Lowther Show’s headline attraction, the Subaru Horse Carriage Driving Trials, bought plenty of exciting, fast-paced action to the countryside event. Drivers were geared up to complete the courses through quick, highly skilled driving before the excited crowds of Lowther.
The Subaru Horse Carriage Driving Trials began on Friday 14th August with the Dressage Trials, which consisted of Dressage judges scoring riders on their set sequence of movements. They also marked on the freedom, regularity of pace, harmony, impulsion, suppleness and ease of movement from both the horse and rider.
On Saturday 15th August the Marathon Run took place. Beginning at Section A competitors passed the front of the castle and headed out through farmland to proceed to the Halt to be checked over by a vet. This part was not timed and acted as a warm-up for the challenge of section B.
Section B consisted of eight obstacles including tight, twisting turns and difficult movements to carry out at speed with the hope of bagging first place.
All obstacles were built in close proximity so spectators could witness the impressive skills of horses and drivers first hand. Start and finish gates marked each obstacle where timing began, with the objective being to drive the gates in the correct sequence and direction in the quickest time.
Sunday consisted of the Lowther Derby Driving Gallop which tested the accuracy and speed of the driver and the balance and control of the horses through 10 pairs of narrowly spaced cones and 2 obstacles.
All three forms of disciplines were judged and marked and proved to be a huge success with drivers and spectators. For a full list of results from the Subaru Lowther Horse Carriage Driving Trials, please CLICK HERE
