One of the most popular events in the County, the Lowther Show, was forced to close its doors on Sunday due to heavy rainfall. With a few days of unrepentant rain leading up to the northern attraction, Saturday’s showcase went ahead with many braving the elements, and unfortunately, with more heavy rainfall overnight, the decision was taken not to open the doors on Sunday.

The decision to close Sunday’s offering was made with all of our visitors, exhibitors and volunteers, as well as demonstrators and performers in mind. The Show’s grounds were unfortunately deemed too unsafe for the event to continue. With organisers and team members working round the clock to try and restore car parks and aisle ways, with the additional rainfall on Saturday evening there was little that could be done.

Countryman Fairs’ Operations Director, Jerome Roberts says of the weekend’s event: “It is with a heavy heart that we took the decision to close Sunday’s instalment of the Lowther Show. As an outdoor event’s company we are used to dealing with all types of weather situations and we invest heavily in our infrastructure to ensure our events not only go ahead successfully but also keep the safety of our visitors and exhibitors at the forefront of our organisation. It is with deepest regret we had to close on the Sunday and we do hope that everybody involved understood such a difficult decision.

Whilst Sunday’s show was closed, the Saturday of the Show did go ahead. Results for our competitions in the BASC Clay Shoot and Chudleys Gundog Championship will be released soon. As many of our most dedicated show goers will understand, the weather may not always go in our favour. We will be emailing all of our visitors who pre-booked tickets to arrange an exchange or a refund very shortly. Again we would like to thank all of our visitors, exhibitors and contractors for all of their support.”
